The Frank J Selke trophy was instituted to reward Bob Gainey for the unsung role he played on the 1970s Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup winning teams.
The trophy is awarded annually to the forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive portion of the game.
Gainey who won the award the first four years it was given out, was a speedy checker who was key in shutting down the opposition's leading scorer.

Favorite Tom Boonen has said that the time is right for him to win the Milan-San Remo race on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Belgian will be riding in his eighth edition of the race and feels he can used the experience that he gained in those previous races to finally secure victory.

Lyon midfielder Jeremy Toulalan lashed out Friday at members of France's 1998 World Cup-winning team for their criticism of the current national squad.
Toulalan told Le Progres newspaper that France's current form is poor but the negative comments from the former champions is "getting on our nerves."

The Mariemont Junior High 7th and 8th grade Power of Pen teams competed On March 13 at Princeton High School against 42 schools in the regional tournament.
Mariemont writers came in first place overall for the 7th and 8th Grade teams combined.
The Mariemont 7th grade writing team won the 7th Grade category.
